SUMMARY:OfTheJackel presents Countess Dracula
DESCRIPTION:“Welcome to my house! Enter freely and of your own free will!” \nFrom the forgotten depths something truly awful is coming. Lurking in the shadows is your worst nightmare. A parasite\, a monster\, a woman. \nThis is no ordinary adaptation. \nJoanna Holden is getting on. The roles are drying up and so is her skin. After too long in the shadows she’s coming to claim what is hers. One of literatures greatest monsters as you’ve never seen it before. \nLongtime collaborators Joanna Holden and OftheJackel are fusing their significant experience in physical comedy and clown (Cirque De Soleil\, Clowns Without Borders…) with Joanna’s lived experience of the menopause and society’s treatment of ageing women. From this unholy marriage springs something truly terrifying. A raucous retelling of Bram Stokers famous tale full of blood\, rage and humour. \nRecommended Price: £10 \nAge Guidance: 16+ \nShow Warnings: Strobe lighting\, flashing lights\, theatrical smoke/haze\, sudden and loud noises\, sound of a gunshot\, strong language\, sexual content\, violence \n  \nWhat are ‘Pay What You Can’ tickets?\nWe believe that that arts should be accessible for all. For this reason some of our shows and events this year will be ‘Pay What You Can’\, meaning that you decide how much you can or want to pay. This expands access to the arts for those who may not have been able to participate otherwise\, or gives others the chance to support those who cannot by paying a bit extra. \nYou will see multiple prices available for each show or event. SUMMARY:WORD! and Renaissance One Present: A Black History Month Special with John Agard
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a very special evening celebrating the poetry and words of international poet John Agard and local poet sensations brought to you through a collaboration between Renaissance One and Word! We’ll offer a space for conversation\, performance and a Caribbean-style lime. \nJohn Agard is a poet\, playwright and short story writer who grew up in Guyana\, where his love of language stemmed from listening to cricket commentaries on the radio. He has won many prizes\, including the Smarties Book Prize and the Queen’s Gold Medal and in 2021 was awarded the prestigious BookTrust Lifetime Achievement Award for an outstanding contribution to children’s literature. John is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and his work appears in an AQA anthology for GCSE English Literature. With his wife\, the poet Grace Nichols\, John has edited the Walker anthologies A Caribbean Dozen and Under the Moon and Over the Sea\, and he is the author of the Carnegie-longlisted My Name Is Book. John lives in Lewes\, East Sussex. \nThere are 2-for-1 students tickets available for this show\, just add 2 student tickets to your cart and the discount will automatically apply \n“His poems are direct and arresting\, playful\, full of startling imagery\, and are hilarious\, passionate and erotic as often as they are political – often managing to be all these things at once” – Maura Dooley \n“A unique and energetic force in contemporary British poetry\, John Agard’s poems combine acute social observation\, puckish wit and a riotous imagination to thrilling effect.” – Poetry Archive \n“a wonderful affirmation of life\, in a language that is vital and joyous”— David Dabydeen \n“John is one of the most exciting\, energetic and spellbinding readers you’ll hear\, breathing passion and energy into each of his poems when he speaks them aloud.” – Poetry Archive \n“Surreal and playful\, John Agard’s stories reveal hidden truths that subtly change our view of who we are and where we come from.”\n— Hope Publishing \n“Agard received the Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry in 2012\, but he is nonetheless a poet of the people; or\, better still\, the nation’s jester\, speaking truth to power in many registers.” Fred D’Aguiar\, Times Literary Supplement. \n  \nAge Guidance: 16+ \n  \nFor more information:\nwww.renaissanceone.co.uk\nwww.wordpoetry.co.uk

SUMMARY:Leicester Jazz House presents Trish Clowes and Ross Stanley Duo
DESCRIPTION:Best jazz music in Leicester. \nSaxophonist Trish Clowes and pianist Ross Stanley have been carefully crafting their unique sound world over a number of years\, performing their own material\, arrangements of music from jazz\, folk and church organ traditions\, and free improvisations. The duo’s appearances include Wigmore Hall\, Queen Elizabeth Hall\, Royal Festival Hall (with Stanley making use of the organ)\, Galway Jazz Festival\, Symphony Hall (Birmingham)\, Buxton International Festival\, Manchester Jazz Festival\, and St George’s Bristol. \nIn March 2024\, Clowes and Stanley released their album ‘Journey to Where’ to wide critical acclaim\, out on Stoney Lane Records. The duo enjoy working with material from anywhere. Their concerts often include music by Duke Ellington\, Geri Allen\, Osvaldo Farrés\, Lili Boulanger\, Nikki Iles\, Antonio Carlos Jobim\, as well as original compositions\, two of which are dedicated to Clowes and Stanley’s respective heroes\, Wayne Shorter and John Taylor. At the heart of their ever-evolving programme of music lies interpretations of a Marcel Dupré prelude (Prelude III from Trois Preludes et Fugues) and Herbert Howells’s Gloucester Service – two beloved works from Stanley’s time as an organ scholar at Marlborough College. \n“Two of the absolute masters we have in this country … so deeply devoted to their craft as improvisers.” – Jamie Cullum\, BBC Radio 2

SUMMARY:Sitar Society presents Diwali Concert 2025: Roopa Panesar Concert 2025
DESCRIPTION:This event takes place at Leicester Cathedral\, Guildhall Entrance.\nAfter playing to packed houses at London’s leading concert halls; Barbican and Southbank Centre\, the celebrated UK-based sitar player Roopa Panesar plays a very special show in her home city. \nFor this home-coming concert\, at the start of the Diwali celebrations\, Roopa will be accompanied by Gurdain Rayatt on tabla\, and Bangalore Prakash on Carnatic percussion for a unique presentation of Indian classical music. \nThe first half of the concert is sitar and tabla in the more traditional style. In the second half Roopa will invite Prakash ji to add Carnatic percussion and then present shorter pieces with the textures of tabla and Carnatic percussion and some light electroacoustics. \nBeing raised in Leicester afforded Roopa Panesar the opportunity to learn sitar from an early age. At the age of seven\, Roopa’s lifelong journey with renowned educationalist and leading UK musician Ustad Dharambir Singh ji MBE started\, and she was quickly recognized as a talent for the future. She remains with her musical guru to this day. \nGurdain Rayatt is one of the leading tabla players in Europe\, who excels both within the classical tradition\, as well as a versatile and expressive musician in cross-cultural\, folk and world music projects. \nBangalore Prakash is a popular mridangam and ghatam artist performing globally\, with many Carnatic concerts relying on his flawless ghatam accompaniment. Although his expertise is in Indian classical music\, he is versatile\, adventurous and open minded. \n“One of the most important musicians to have emerged in the British Asian diaspora over the past few years. She expresses a profound sense of calmness laced with an inexplicable exhilaration.” (⭐⭐⭐⭐ Songlines) \n“British-Indian sitar player Roopa Panesar and her band were outstanding” (The Independent\, review of WOMAD Festival) \n“AR Rahman‘s suite from his Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack is effectively a concerto for sitar and orchestra\, the former played with staggering dexterity by Roopa Panesar.” (⭐⭐⭐⭐ Guardian) \n  \nPerformers\nRoopa Panesar – sitar \nGurdain Rayatt – tabla \nRN Prakash – percussion \n  \nThis performance is presented in partnership with Asian Arts Agency\, the UK’s leading promoter of South Asian music.

SUMMARY:Apittame Arts presents Acting Workshops: Pilot Series
DESCRIPTION:Whether you’re returning to acting\, trying it out for the first time\, or just looking for a creative outlet—this is a space for you. \nJoin us for a brand-new series of acting workshops designed to be exploratory\, low-pressure\, and collaborative. Across six fortnightly sessions\, participants will explore acting techniques\, ensemble-building\, and creative expression in a warm and inclusive environment. \nThis pilot series is a chance to try things out\, get to know one another\, and shape what a longer-term programme could become. There’s no pressure to perform—just space to play\, connect\, and build confidence. Sessions are open to anyone aged 18+\, regardless of experience. Each one is led by a team of passionate local creatives and facilitators committed to making theatre more accessible and community-driven. \nFirst session on 6 September is free\, pay what you can after that. Come along\, bring a friend\, and see what it’s all about! \n  \nParticipant Feedback – Creative Writing Workshop (Spring 2025): \n“Amazing\, inclusive environment. I felt free to share my thoughts without judgement. The prompts given were inspiring and made it easy to put pen to paper.” \n“Great session—it helped me to think about what I want to write and improve my creative writing skills. I liked the vibe—it was relaxing.” \n“Supportive atmosphere\, lively facilitator. Interesting & productive prompts. Very enjoyable.” \n“Thought-provoking and fun/inviting.” \n“I would have liked a longer session… more opportunity to talk and share. Loved the open way in which we were guided.” \n  \nRecommended Price: £10 \nAge Guidance: 18+ \n  \nWhat are ‘Pay What You Can’ tickets?\nWe believe that that arts should be accessible for all. You can select whichever price you can afford or would like to pay – thank you. \n
