SUMMARY:Craft & Art Fair
DESCRIPTION:Our popular Craft & Art Fair returns to showcase the work of some of the best local and regional craft makers and artists. \nMeet\, browse and buy from over 50 selected exhibitors at each fair\, showcasing some of the best jewellery\, glass\, ceramics\, textiles\, printmaking\, painting\, wood\, stationery\, homewares\, accessories\, artisan foods and more from across our region. \nOur galleries\, shop and café will also be open for a full day experience of the centre. \nBooking is recommended beforehand however we also encourage people to drop-in on the day of the fair. Children and adults all require tickets but pricing is up to the individual. \nRecommended Price: £1 \n  \nAlan Caine art sale:\nThe Fair will also feature the sale of work from the late Alan Caine who passed away in 2023. With Eleanor Hartley\, working alongside Sir Richard Attenborough\, Alan helped conceive\, fund\, design and launch the Attenborough Centre for Disability and the Arts\, now the Attenborough Arts Centre\, in 1997. Alan’s estate has very kindly donated his work for sale to help raise essential funds for Attenborough Arts Centre. All donations will help us to continue to ensure everyone can access the arts\, and fund some very much needed equipment to help disabled children\, young people and adults enjoy their creative journey in our spaces. All of his artwork will be sold as pay-what-you-can. \n  \n \n  \nWhat are ‘Pay What You Can’ tickets?\nWe believe that that arts should be accessible for all. For this reason some of our shows and events this year will be ‘Pay What You Can’\, meaning that you decide how much you can or want to pay. This expands access to the arts for those who may not have been able to participate otherwise\, or gives others the chance to support those who cannot by paying a bit extra. \nYou will see multiple prices available for each show or event. You can select whichever price you can afford or would like to pay – thank you. \n

SUMMARY:Sitar Society presents Diwali Concert 2025: Roopa Panesar Concert 2025
DESCRIPTION:This event takes place at Leicester Cathedral\, Guildhall Entrance.\nAfter playing to packed houses at London’s leading concert halls; Barbican and Southbank Centre\, the celebrated UK-based sitar player Roopa Panesar plays a very special show in her home city. \nFor this home-coming concert\, at the start of the Diwali celebrations\, Roopa will be accompanied by Gurdain Rayatt on tabla\, and Bangalore Prakash on Carnatic percussion for a unique presentation of Indian classical music. \nThe first half of the concert is sitar and tabla in the more traditional style. In the second half Roopa will invite Prakash ji to add Carnatic percussion and then present shorter pieces with the textures of tabla and Carnatic percussion and some light electroacoustics. \nBeing raised in Leicester afforded Roopa Panesar the opportunity to learn sitar from an early age. At the age of seven\, Roopa’s lifelong journey with renowned educationalist and leading UK musician Ustad Dharambir Singh ji MBE started\, and she was quickly recognized as a talent for the future. She remains with her musical guru to this day. \nGurdain Rayatt is one of the leading tabla players in Europe\, who excels both within the classical tradition\, as well as a versatile and expressive musician in cross-cultural\, folk and world music projects. \nBangalore Prakash is a popular mridangam and ghatam artist performing globally\, with many Carnatic concerts relying on his flawless ghatam accompaniment. Although his expertise is in Indian classical music\, he is versatile\, adventurous and open minded. \n“One of the most important musicians to have emerged in the British Asian diaspora over the past few years. She expresses a profound sense of calmness laced with an inexplicable exhilaration.” (⭐⭐⭐⭐ Songlines) \n“British-Indian sitar player Roopa Panesar and her band were outstanding” (The Independent\, review of WOMAD Festival) \n“AR Rahman‘s suite from his Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack is effectively a concerto for sitar and orchestra\, the former played with staggering dexterity by Roopa Panesar.” (⭐⭐⭐⭐ Guardian) \n  \nPerformers\nRoopa Panesar – sitar \nGurdain Rayatt – tabla \nRN Prakash – percussion \n  \nThis performance is presented in partnership with Asian Arts Agency\, the UK’s leading promoter of South Asian music.

SUMMARY:Frozen Light presents: The Ancient Oak of Baldor
DESCRIPTION:A folk tale of love\, loss and the interconnectedness of all things. \nThe Ancient Oak stands strong in the Forest of Baldor\, in the land of Earten. There it has stood for millennia\, rooted deeply to both the land and people of the forest. On this day at the cusp of winter\, the people of Baldor are celebrating The Great Cracking of the Ancient Oak. \nElspeth hoped this was the day that Lars would return. But when he doesn’t\, she is taken on an unexpected journey. One that she will never forget. \nFrozen Light welcomes you into their latest fantasy realm\, where we discover what truly nourishes us through the long nights is our capacity for love in all its different forms. \nA multi-sensory experience for audiences with profound and multiple learning disabilities and their companions\, offering the chance to gather and experience the collective power of shared stories. \nThe performance has four showings total\, on Thursday 9 October and Friday 10 October at 11am and 1:30pm. Please select the show you would like to see when booking. \nNote: When booking there must be a paid ticket for each person with PMLD and a free ticket for each carer\, with a maximum of 2 carers per person. \nRecommended Price: £10 \n \n  \nWhat are ‘Pay What You Can’ tickets?\nWe believe that that arts should be accessible for all.

SUMMARY:Deaf Artist-led BSL Tour of We Grown-Ups Can Also Be Afraid
DESCRIPTION:Join Deaf artist Rubbena Aurangzeb-Tariq on a BSL Tour of ‘We Grown Ups Can Also Be Afraid’– an exhibition that takes its name from the Swedish nursery rhyme that features in the show. \nDrawn from the David and Indrė Roberts Collection\, one of the UK’s foremost private art collections\, the exhibition encompasses sculpture\, works on canvas\, moving image and installation. The artists represented in the exhibition respond to these themes in very different ways\, but their practices are connected by a sustained engagement with globally important issues that can often feel too big and too difficult for us to think about. They collect\, build\, stitch\, carve\, burn\, staple\, break and put back together many different materials to shape works that speak about their concerns. \nThis is not an exhibition about art and activism. The artists represented may not consider their work as a form of political activism – indeed\, there is no sense that we are being lectured to or told what to think. Instead\, it seems that we are being invited to direct our attention to something urgently important\, to look more closely at the world as it is now. \nRubbena will be leading the tour in British Sign Language (BSL) capturing the curator’s insight into the exhibitions for the participants. A BSL Interpreter will also attend. \nThis friendly tour is free\, and open to everyone. The tour will be Deaf-led and tailored for Deaf audiences. \n  \nAbout Rubbena Aurangzeb-Tariq\nRubbena Aurangzeb-Tariq is a London based painter and installation artist. She has exhibited internationally in New York\, South Korea\, Canada\, Paris\, Sweden and the UK. Over the past few years she has led BSL tours for galleries such as the Hayward\, Tate\, Wallace Collections and the Science Gallery.
